Animation
A semester program designed to give the students a basic foundation in 2 & 3D animation. Using ImageReady and Flash, students will develop basic 2D animation skills working with clip art, geometric shapes, video and sound. Moving into 3D animation, students will use the software programs Poser and Bryce to create a variety of animated movies.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Digital Media
Flash Poser Bryce
2D Animation-6 weeks
ClipArt& Sound • Sample
Students will be able to create a 2D animation using Flash. The animation will include at least one piece of clipart which is animated. At least one sound effect is to be synced with the clipart.
Button Magic/Multiple Files • Sample
Students will be able to use Flash to create buttons which will access a variety of different Flash files.
Frame by Frame Animation • Sample
Students will be able to use Flash to create an animation by creating/drawing each individual frame.
Animated Song • Sample
Students will be able to create an animation which should have some connection to a song of the students choosing.

Poser-6 weeks
Poser Animation Walk/Run • Sample
Students will be able to create a 4 seconds or longer (at least 120 frames) Poser animation. The figure will walk, power walk and run towards the viewer. A QuickTime movie is the final result.
Poser Animation 3 or More Poses w/background • Sample
Students will be able to create a 4 seconds or longer (at least 120 frames) Poser animation. The animation is to include at least 3 different poses. The poses should cause the figure or character to move in what most of us would consider to be normal movements. A QuickTime movie is the final result.
Poser Animation 2 or More Figures • Sample
Students will be able to create a 4 seconds or longer Poser animation using 2 or more figures or characters. The characters and/or figures are to react to each other. A QuickTime movie is the final result.
Poser Animation Camera Movement • Sample
Students will be able to create a 6 seconds or longer Poser animation using three or more different camera positions. A QuickTime movie is the final result.
Poser Animation Cartoon Character Talks w/background
Students will be able to create a 4 seconds or longer (at least 120 frames) Poser animation using one of the cartoon characters. The character is too appear to talk (mouth needs to move) A QuickTime movie is the final result.
Poser Animation Character & Movie
Students will be able to create a 4 seconds or longer (at least 120 frames) Poser animation. The animation is to include a QuickTime movie as the background. The character is to interact with the movie. A QuickTime movie is the final result.
Bryce-5 weeks
Bryce Island • Sample
Students will be able to use Bryce to create an island animation(flyby of some sort). The scene will include a terrain, water and anything else which might add to the scene. The animation is to be at least 8 seconds long.
Bryce Cityscape • Sample
Students will be able to use Bryce to create a city landscape. The city must contain at least 10 buildings, all with textures or patterns added to them. The buildings are to be laid out in some sort of street grid and a 10 second animation(trip thru the streets) is to be completed.
Bryce Riverbank • Sample
Students will be able to use Bryce to create a River bank animation(flyby of some sort). The animation is to be at least 8 seconds long.
Bryce Room with a View • Sample
Students will be able to create a room based on 3 walls, a ceiling and floor. Inside the room there will be at least one window, a table and one or more chairs. The scene will be completed with a picture hanging on the wall. An animated tour of 10 seconds or more will complete the project. A QuickTime movie is the final result.
Bryce Building • Sample
Students will be able to use Bryce to create the exterior of a building. An animated flyby of the building in QuickTime format will be the final project.
Bryce Lake • Sample
Students will be able to use Bryce to create an animation(flyby of some sort) of a lake. The scene will include a plain, hole in the ground, water plane and anything else which might add to the scene. The animation is to be at least 8 seconds long.

Animation II
A semester program designed to give the students advanced work in 2 & 3D animation. Students will continue to develop their 2D and/or 3D animation skills working with clip art, geometric shapes, video and sound.
Prerequisites: Introduction to Digital Media, Animation I
Animated 2D Movie • Sample
Students will be able to create a 2D animated movie using Flash. The process will begin with an outline detailing what is going to happen in the movie as well as a listing of each scene and what is taking place in each scene. The movie will meet the following requirements:
- Movie is to be at least 1 and a half minutes long
- Movie is to have a title as well as credits at the end
- Movie is to be animated not just a series of still images
- Movie is to tell a complete story
- Movie should have a start and stop buttons
- Movie is to be at least 480 x 360 in size
Animated 3D Movie • Sample
Students will be able to create an 3D animated movie using Poser and Bryce. The process will begin with an outline detailing what is going to happen in the movie as well as a listing of each scene and what is taking place in each scene.The movie will meet the following requirements:
- Movie is to be at least 1 and a half minutes long
- Movie is to have a title as well as credits at the end
