Units of Study
 
     Introduction to the Scientific Method
The scientific method is a step by step approach to answering questions by making observations and performing experiments.  The steps of the scientific method include: Ask a Question, Do Research, Form a Hypothesis, Experiment, Record and Analyze Data, and Draw Conclusions.  Students will utilize the scientific method throughout the investigations.

     Solar System and Beyond
The Solar System and Beyond investigates the characteristics of planets, dwarf planets, and other objects in space.  Through the activities and resources, students examine the components of the solar system and the universe.

     Populations and Ecosystems
Populations and Ecosystems examines living things and their relationships with each other and with their environment.  Through activities and resources, students discover and understand the roles that different organisms play in an environment.  They will find out how materials that organisms need cycle through ecosystems, and they will trace the flow of energy through them.  Students will examine large land ecosystems-Earth's biomes-as well as Earth's large water ecosystems.  They will also discover the importance of biodiversity.

     Weather and Climate
Students will explain how the cycling of water into and out of the atmosphere impacts climatic patterns.

 
Properties of Matter 
Students will identify structure, characteristic properties , and interactions of matter.   

Geology
Geology investigates Earth's overrall structure and processes that cause rocks to bend and fracture, changing Earth's crust.
